April 7-13, 2024

Mayfield Kentucky Tornado Recovery

In December 2021 a tornado touched down and ripped through western Tennessee and Kentucky.  Downtown Mayfield was destroyed and surrounding areas were severely affected.  Many homes were either destroyed or damaged.  Many organizations and volunteers rushed to these areas to provide relief from this disaster.  Survivors experienced the heroism of the combined efforts of organizations and volunteers in helping those affected by the tornadoes to survive the initial shock.

Fast forward to today.  Many of those organizations have left and volunteers have gone back to their homes or moved to the next disaster area. There is a large gap in the recovery of survivors from the 2021 tornadoes.

We will be partnering with the Tennessee Western Kentucky United Methodist Conference Disaster Response (TWK). Work will include construction, rebuilding, and repair of homes.  TWK Disaster Response provides housing for us at a church that has cots, a kitchen, and showers.  TWK supplies all building materials.

This will be a drive to work camp. Mayfield is a day’s drive, approximately an 8 hour drive. Carpooling will be up to individuals.
